Broadway High Street - looking towards Fish Hill

• This picturesque village takes its name from its "broad way" (or wide street) lined with gracious houses and cottages built of the honey-coloured Cotswold stone
• The Lygon Arms (dating from around 1500), world famous hotel, was once a coaching inn and was a popular stop between London and Wales
• Broadway Tower standing on the hill way above the town was built in 1800 for the Earl of Coventry for no other purpose than that he could see it from his country seat twenty miles away (a 'folly': a tower, castle or temple built to satisfy a fancy or conceit, usually for eccentric and wealthy landowners)
• The Tower became a country retreat for the Pre-Raphaelite artists, and particularly for William Morris, one of the founders of the Arts and Crafts Movement: he drew inspiration for many of his designs whilst staying here
• From Broadway Hill, there are marvelous views across the Vale of Evesham
